How Electric Dirt Bikes Help Build a Greener Future

Off-road riding has always been about freedom, adrenaline and time outdoors. Electric dirt bikes keep all of that – while removing many of the downsides of petrol engines. If you care about the trails you ride and the places you live, switching to electric is one of the easiest ways to ride with a smaller footprint.

Zero exhaust emissions while you ride

An electric dirt bike has no combustion engine, so it produces no exhaust fumes at the point of use. That means no smell of two-stroke oil, no fumes in your face on a tight trail and cleaner air for other people around you. If you charge with electricity from renewable sources, such as a green energy tariff or solar panels at home, the emissions linked to your riding drop even further.

Much less noise

Noise is one of the biggest reasons off-road riding causes conflict with neighbours and landowners. Electric motors are dramatically quieter than petrol engines. You hear the tires on the dirt, not a screaming engine, and so does everyone nearby. Quieter riding means less disturbance for wildlife and a better relationship with the communities around riding areas.

No oil, no fuel, fewer consumables

A petrol dirt bike needs regular oil changes, air filters, spark plugs, fuel and clutch parts. An electric dirt bike needs none of these. There is no engine oil to dispose of, no fuel to spill and far fewer parts to replace. The main items that still wear are tires, brake pads, chain and sprockets – all of which you can find in our parts and accessories range.

Efficient use of energy

Electric motors convert a much higher share of their energy into motion than combustion engines, which lose most of theirs as heat. Many electric dirt bikes also offer regenerative braking, which recovers some energy when you slow down and sends it back to the battery.

Make your battery last longer

The battery is the part of an electric bike with the biggest environmental footprint, so the longer it lasts, the greener your riding. Charge with the original charger, avoid storing the battery completely empty or in extreme heat or cold, and keep it partly charged over winter. Read our 7 tips to get the most out of your electric dirt bike for a full care routine. When a battery does reach the end of its life, never put it in household waste – return it to an appropriate collection point for recycling, as required in Germany.

Ride responsibly, protect the trails

  • Only ride where off-road riding is allowed, or choose a road-legal model for public roads.
  • Stay on marked tracks to avoid damaging vegetation and soil.
  • Avoid riding wet, soft trails that are easily rutted.
  • Take your rubbish home and respect wildlife and other trail users.
  • Repair and upgrade parts instead of replacing the whole bike.
